Free Genealogy Advisory Service
Before undertaking research in the National Archives, visitors may find it helpful to visit the Genealogy Advisory Service, which is provided free of charge. The Genealogy Service is intended primarily for first-time researchers and visitors, but more experienced researchers may find it of value in assisting with research problems. Please note it is necessary to obtain a reader’s ticket to avail of this service.
This service is available Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 (with a break for lunch from 13.30-14:00) to anyone in possession of a valid reader’s ticket. The service is staffed by professional genealogists who are all members of Accredited Genealogists Ireland.
There is no need and it is not possible to make an appointment as the service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. During busy periods it may be necessary to queue. Information on opening hours and obtaining a reader’s ticket are available in Visit us.
