Report of 31 December 1915: Special Report on New Ireland

CSO_JD_2_172_00001

(NAI, CSO/JD/2/172)

The first report of 31 December 1915 is a special report on HFT Maguire and Patrick J Little, who are noted to be directors of the company behind the publication New Ireland.

The report notes although HFT Maguire, who lives with his sister Dr Kathleen Maguire at 67 Merrion Square, is a director, he ‘does not, so far as can be ascertained, take any part in the production of the paper nor mix in politics’.

A more detailed background is provided of Patrick J Little, who is described as the son of ‘the late Philip Francis Little, an Irishman who was for many years a Judge in Newfoundland’ [Canada]. Little ‘is said to be in such comfortable circumstances as not to be dependant on any Profession for a living’. Although he contributes articles to New Ireland, ‘he has not been known to identify himself with any political party’.

An annotation on the report refers to requests for further information on New Ireland in the reports of 16 December 1915 and 21 December 1915.
