Report of 24 March 1916

The report of 24 March 1916 records a visit to his shop at 75 Parnell Street by Thomas J Clarke. During this time, Clarke is observed meeting with Seán MacDiarmada. Both men depart together and head towards Clarke’s residence in Fairview. The shop is visited throughout the day by Piaras Béaslaí, Con Colbert, Edward Daly, Joseph McGuinness, Frank Fahy, Charles J Kickham and [James] O’Connor.
A meeting in the office of the Irish Volunteers, 2 Dawson Street, is attended by Michael J O’Rahilly, [James] O’Connor, Jeremiah Joseph O’Connell, Michael O’Hanrahan, Bulmer Hobson, Herbert ‘Barney’ Mellows, Thomas Hunter, James O’Sullivan, Laurence Raul and AWW Cotton.
Edward Daly, John McGarry and AWW Cotton are observed in conversation in D’Olier Street, following which Cotton’s departure by train to Belfast is noted.
Around 70 members of the ‘Sinn Fein Volunteers without rifles’ are drilled in the hall at the rear of 41 Rutland Square in the presence of Bulmer Hobson, Con Colbert, John Milroy, Gerald Griffin, JJ Farrelly, Charles J Kickham, Edward Daly and Frank Fahy.
