Genealogy

Introduction

We hold rich and varied collections of records which are relevant to Irish genealogy and local history and although our staff cannot undertake research on behalf of members of the public, everyone is welcome to visit us and explore the sources we hold on these topics.

For an idea of just some of the wide range of our records available to search, please visit our genealogy website where you can view census records for 1901 and 1911, the 19th-century Tithe Applotment BooksSoldiers’ Wills and will calendars for the years 1858-1920 and 1922-1982.

Our genealogy menu contains information on getting started and on the family and local history sources held both in the NAI and elsewhere while visitors are also welcome to use our in-house Genealogy Service which offers a free, short personal consultation service by professional genealogists to those researching their family tree. This service is available from Monday to Friday, 10.00–13.30.
