National Archives does not provide a research service. Members of the public may avail of our free professional Genealogy advisory service if visiting in person.

Professional researchers employed by members of the public are allowed to access our collections on the same terms as any other member of the public in possession of a valid Reader’s ticket. No special access is provided for professional researchers.

Further information on employing a professional researcher may be obtained from genealogical bodies and organisations listed below. The National Archives provides this information for guidance only, and accepts no responsibility for the quality or cost of any research undertaken by these organisations, or their members.
