June 2010

(Above) Memorial dated 29 June 1846 of James Deacy, steward on a line of road at Knockroosky in the parish of Aughagower, county Mayo, in which he alleges that he was paid a lesser wage than two other stewards, relatives of the works superintendent. Deacy hopes that ‘there will be justice done him by the humanity of the R[elief] Commissioners’ – an annotation in the margin dated 30 June 1846 states that ‘the Relief Commissioners cannot interfere in questions of this kind’.
