December 2005

(Above) Letter from Mr C Ryan in the Department of Finance to Diarmaid O’Hegarty, Secretary, Department of the President of the Executive Council (now the Department of the Taoiseach) dated 19 December 1923. The letter discusses the possibility of senior staff officers in the Department contributing five shillings or under towards the purchase of Christmas boxes for cleaners and messengers working throughout the building, with “due regard being paid to the number of months in the year for which each cleaner has been working here”. Ryan asks Hegarty to pass on any money collected to Mr Gately who is responsible for the messengers and cleaners generally.
