(Above) Garda Síochána report dated 3 September 1940 regarding the attack by three German bombers on the Irish vessel, “Loch Ryan”, while the latter was en route from Falmouth in England to Arklow, county Wicklow, 16 August 1940. The vessel, carrying a cargo of china clay, was registered in Ireland and was flying the Irish flag when attacked.
